We’ve experienced unprecedented times for quite some time now and it’s fair to say that when we come out of them, COVID-19 would have changed us a lot. Everything from the way we work to the way we socialise, it simply won’t be the same after being forced to live a certain way for so long.
Considering all of this, it’d be no surprise to think our confidence has been totally knocked from it all. We may feel conscious about how we look after being restricted with fitness plans, or we fear the new challenges that are ready for us when we eventually return back to the workplace. We feel out of practice and the need to take our time to get back into the swing of things again so it’s no surprise we’re unsteady at the moment.
If you’re a little nervous about returning back to normal and need your confidence picking up again, here are some useful tips for you.
Reminisce on your confident times
Some of your most confident times could be as little as hosting a successful dinner party, to nailing the job interview that you knew was right for you. Remind yourself of the times when you felt most confident – how you acted, felt, and what you did during those times that were potentially your most successful and confident.
Was it the people around you that made you feel this way? Was it something that you did that ensured you were ready? As you start to get back to normal, remind yourself of these times.
Express yourself through outfits
It probably feels like it has been a while since you last wore your favourite denim jeans or that polka dot short sleeve shirt that you only brought out for special occasions. Well, now’s not the time to buck the trend and go back to normal. Express yourself and remind everyone who you were before the lockdown hit.
What’s the one item in your wardrobe that gives you a great feeling when you put it on? Is there a particular outfit that you know looks good on you and everyone comments on? Make sure the colours you put on express your personality and what you’re all about. Got a new breast augmentation recently? Show it off with your new low cut dress and get your cheeky side out.
Don’t push yourself too hard
Gaining back your confidence isn’t an overnight process, unfortunately for us. It’s going to take you a while to get back to normal and get used to your new surroundings. We’ve been in lockdown for many months now and the same way we had to get used to staying indoors, we need to do the same when we go back out again.
Take your time and come to terms with what’s comfortable slowly. Discover what it is that you need to support you during this time, whether it’s talking to someone or taking time to yourself, and run with it.
Try something new
If lockdown wreaked havoc on pre-made plans, fitness levels or even just your day to day schedule and you found yourself bored or without any plans, now that restrictions are beginning to be lifted, it is the perfect time to try something new. It could be something you’ve always wanted to try, whether that’s volunteering or learning a new skill such as cooking, or starting a new fitness regime or sport. Take a look at our new class schedule and see if something takes your fancy – it could be a barre class or reintroducing yourself to pilates. Whichever way you choose to go with gaining your confidence, do it your way and at a pace that you’re comfortable with. It’s going to take time, but you’ll get there eventually. It’s just about easing into it and finding yourself again.
